For those of you who say you hate Hertz...we at Hertz say....WHATEVER! Here's a few reasons why your threatening to "never rent from Hertz again" sounds so ridiculous.
1) We are the largest rental car company in the world. We are owned by Ford Motor Company (which by the way owns Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, and Mazda)which allows us to offer a very large variety of cars.
2) We have over 5 million Gold Members in this country alone. What? You thought you were the only one?? Not hardly. You love to spout off about "Being a Gold Member"...but are you Platinum? Now those are the ones that we jump for. They never wait for a courtesy bus...the manager at the location picks them up personally at the terminal in the nicest car on the lot (or delivers their car to them at their hotel). He also carries their luggage for them.
3) No...we don't price match with anyone, our prices are what they are for a reason. We don't restrict where you can drive our cars, you can take them to any state and also to Canada and Mexico. Some of the other rental car companies restrict you to taking theirs one or two states over and some won't let you leave the state you rent it in. Plus, none of our cars are over 9 months old and many have less than 15,000 miles on them before they are removed from the fleet line. We offer the best variety and service...and that comes with a price. Would you go into Nieman Marcus and complain to them that Walmart has something cheaper? Please...get real.
4) We offer one of the top navigational systems in the world...many rent from us just to use that. Plus we now offer the Sirius radio system...it's awesome.
5) When a Gold Member says to us "I'll never rent from you again if I can't get the car I want", we just smile...we know you'll be back. You don't want to go to one of the other companies where you will just be "Mr. or Mrs. I AM NOBODY" and stand in line with every one else. You like the service you get at Hertz and the superior way you feel when you walk past all the people standing in line at the counter. You may stop renting for a little while...but you'll be back.
I'll stop listing the reasons with those...there are too many reasons you love us to mention.
But as a footnote let me make a recommendation to those of you who call the res center and really go out of your way to prove what a non-human you are. TRY and be considerate of the person on the other end of the phone..you know, we don't make the corporate policies, we are just there to explain them to you. If we were in the position that we could change and override the company policies do you honestly think we would be on the phone talking to you? Not hardly. Try to be nice when you call (though for some of you that may be impossible), you never know what the person on the other end may be going through in their life and last thing they need is some person whose ego is larger than their IQ cussing them out. Like the young lady whose mother had just died and the Gold Member cussed her out because she was "obviously too stupid to book his reservation". What an A**hole. I'd be willing to pay him never to rent from Hertz again.
So please...don't insult us by trying to make us think you won't rent from us again...you know you will. Just accept the fact that we are the best (at least Forbes magazine says we are and so do the public opinion polls taken this year, not to mention all the awards we have won), and we offer the best...and isn't that what you really want? Some things you don't need to be a miser on, your rental car is one of them. Also try to remember that you get more by being nice than you do by being an A**hole, that just cuts all lines of communication. When you call, if you don't like the rates, just say "Thank you, but I don't think I will reserve that" and say goodbye. Don't tie up the phone lines keeping people from getting through who realize and respect us for what and who we are...simply the best.

Yes, you are correct that some people are rude and demanding when they deal with customer service representatives in all walks of life and there is no excuse for it. You are also correct that people get more cooperation by being nice than nasty.
Having said all of that, I also note that you have an attitude. What makes any company the best is its people. People that enjoy helping their customers even if it means stretching or going around the company rules (in other words, going that extra mile) in order to please a customer. I have dealt with customer service representatives like you. You may be right when you advise your customers of the comapny rules, just as the pedestrian is right when he demands the right of way in front of a speeding bus. Have you listened to yourself when you talk to your customers? Are you patient, polite, helpful and cheerful? Do you take into consideration that they may have had a really bad trip due to airline delays, lost luggage or any number of other probelms associated with travel today. Do you know if they are experienced travelers who should know the rope or only soemtime travellers to whom the entire travel experience is confusing.
I will bet that you are not one of the customer service agents who helped achieve the high rating you tell us your company has achieved. I bet you are one of the ones who is told more often than not, "I will not use Hertz again".
Just try to remeber, those pesky customers are really the ones that are respponsible for your paycheck. I suppose if you got rid of all your customers, all your problems would be solved. Or would they?

It appears that this person is not a good representative for Hertz or Ford. What ever happened to good customer service??? If I had gone to Hertz and had to deal with a person who had this type of attitude about customers, I also would be an irate customer which she would probably complain about. I run my own business and this individual would be in the unemployment if they had this attitude in my business!!!

| What a little snob! First of all, I do work for the LARGEST rental car company in North America, and it's not Hurtz(intential misspelling)! Enterprise surpassed Hertz in fleet size almost a decade ago! JD Power & Associates has awarded Enterprise No.1 in customer service @ both Airport & in-town locations the last 4 years running. We have that award because the customer is the most important aspect of our business. Every customer is valuable. Loosing even one customer because of an employees foul-up is a detriment to long term survival. Everyone screws up, but with an attitude like yours, it won't be long before your upper management sees it's liability in an employee like you and cuts you loose. Hertz does many things right, and that's what keeps Enterprise on it's toes, but it's been years since Hertz has been No. 1! Get a life! |
