71kms north of Trivandrum lies Quilon. One of the oldest ports on the Malabar Coast, Kollam was once the port for international spice trade. Thirty per cent of this historic town is covered by the renowned Ashtamudi Lake, making it the gateway to the magnificent backwaters of Kerala. The eight-hour boat trip between Quilon and Alleppey is the longest and one of the most enchanting experiences. The district also has some interesting historic remnants and a number of temples beautiful for its traditional ornate architectural styles. Standard hotel one of the str_replace("\'","'"," Boutique Hotel Kerala ") is about 85 kms from Airport, 11/2 kms from Railway Station, 1/2 km. from Bus Stand.

Kerala lies on the coastline of the Arabian Sea commonly branded as God's own country. Kerala is sandwiched between 'The Western Ghats' on one side and TamilNadu on the other side. From warm golden beaches, cool hill stations and dense jungles to vast meadows, paddy fields, palm trees and backwaters. Kerala is the best selection for tourists. Kerala is known for its traditional sadhyas, a vegetarian meal served with boiled rice and a host of side-dishes. The sadhyas is complemented by payasam, a sweet milk dessert native to Kerala. The sadhya is, as per custom, served on a banana leaf. There is a difference in the servings from the southern part to the northern end. The south Kerala dishes are spiced up with garlic whereas in North Kerala garlic is generally avoided in all vegetarian dishes. Traditional food items include Sambar, aviyal, kaalan, theeyal, thoran, injipully, pulisherry, appam , kappa (tapioca), puttu (steam cake), and puzhukku. Coconut is an essential ingredient in most of the food items and is liberally used.
