|
|
United shuttle, by flying at competitive prices and frequent schedules (nothing wrong with that!) has driven most other carriers out of the routes between LAX and SFO. There is a lot of demand for daily commuter travel between these cities.
Because of that, United is able to treat their passengers as if they were unwanted cattle. There is half enough seating in the terminals, so for the last hour before flight time it is SRO and noisy bedlam. All flights are full. And to make sure they fly full, United routinely (and I mean every single day, rain or shine!) cancels one mid-afternoon flight returning from SFO to LAX-- then rolls over all those passengers to be wait-listed on each succeeding flight. So every flight is jammed, and the poor passengers who foolishly booked on the 2:30 or 3:15 "phantom" flight are forced to play "rollover roulette" for sometimes 7 hours until they finally get the last seat aboard the 10:00 pm flight.
I have seen grown men screaming at the top of their lungs at United ticket-counter personnel after being "incrementaled" i.e. being delayed 30 minutes at a time for the rest of the day, and Million-Milers who can't get a seat. For Christ's sake, if they would just tell the poor passengers the truth, they could rent a car and drive to LA in 6 hours. Nothing is more infuriating than missing your flight, then watching all the next 6 flights take off before you, so that all your co-workers who booked later flights take off before you do. It would make so much more sense to bump entire flights so that everyone is 30 minutes late, than to single out the unlucky 230 passengers who were inexperienced enough to book one of United's notorious mid-afternoon "phantom" flights. United keeps zero spare equipment, and since United squeezes a lot of flights among LA and the major western cities, a weather or equipment problem anywhere in the west quickly backs up all other routes. For this reason United has the least likelihood of departing on time, or even getting to your destination within any given half-day.
Several highly-paid employees of my company, and most of our lawyers and consultants, refuse to fly United because of this treatment. They will fly Southwest to Oakland, even though the service is non-existent and it takes much longer to get to downtown San Francisco.
God, how I miss that beautiful Delta flight that used to take off every evening at 5:30-- it was quiet, peaceful, and usually half-full-- so of course it got canceled. Sigh....

united has been firing all the good mechanics that have looked out for you safety, the planes are unsafe and the company has been having formans distroying maintance records to cover this up. i know as i have seen this during my 18 years of working at united, go look at www.untied.com and see for yourself. i would never again board a united plane if my life depends on it, i drive from now on !!!!

I looked at that www.untied.com site, the cbs news report has uncovered interesting info on how united airlines has been skimping on proper maintenance. what i don't understand is why the faa or dept of transportation has not grounded the planes until proof of proper maintenance has been accomplished.

| Yes, everybody, life is so rough isn't it? And to think, I thought there were people out there with real problems like hunger or illness. But god forbid your flight be delayed. God forbid you have a middle seat. They should take all the money that goes towards curing aids or feeding the hungry and put that towards making your flight more comfortable for you. Don't you think? |
